Yard Manager
2180 E Main, Montrose, CO 81401Full-time — Exempt (Managerial)$65,000–$85,000 annually, commensurate with experience
The Lumber Yard Manager is responsible for overseeing daily storefront and yard operations related to lumber, rebar, concrete accessories, and paint department sales. This role leads front-line teams to ensure efficient operational flow, exceptional customer service, accurate inventory management, and a safe, well-maintained facility.
Core Responsibilities
Operations & Storefront Management
- Oversee daily yard and storefront operations to ensure safe, efficient material handling and customer transactions
- Manage product flow from receiving to storage, staging, and customer delivery or pickup
- Ensure proper merchandising, signage, and presentation of lumber, rebar, concrete accessories, and paint products
- Maintain facility standards, including cleanliness, safety compliance, and equipment readiness
Team Leadership & Scheduling
- Directly supervise yard associates, drivers (as applicable), and department staff
- Hire, coach, train, and evaluate employees to support performance, safety, and customer service standards
- Develop and manage employee schedules aligned with business demand and delivery timelines
- Enforce company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures
Customer Service
- Ensure a high level of customer service for contractors, builders, and retail customers
- Resolve customer issues related to product availability, order accuracy, delivery coordination, and service quality
- Partner with sales staff to support account relationships and job-site needs
Inventory & Materials Management
- Oversee inventory accuracy through cycle counts, audits, and process adherence
- Monitor stock levels, shrink, damaged goods, and product rotation
- Coordinate with purchasing and management to maintain optimal inventory levels
Fleet & Dispatch Coordination
- Collaborate with fleet dispatch to align yard operations with delivery schedules
- Ensure materials are staged, loaded, and prepared accurately and on time
- Support efficient use of trucks, forklifts, and yard equipment
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce safety programs, OSHA compliance, and company procedures
- Conduct safety training and incident follow-ups as needed
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE, forklifts, and handling equipment
Qualifications & Requirements
Required
- 3–5 years of experience in lumberyard, building materials, or related operations
- Prior supervisory or management experience
- Strong working knowledge of lumber products, building materials, and yard operations
- Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, outdoor/warehouse environment
- Solid organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate forklifts and yard equipment (certification preferred or provided)
Preferred
- Experience with rebar, concrete accessories, and paint products
- Familiarity with dispatching, delivery coordination, and fleet operations
- Experience using ERP, inventory management, or point-of-sale systems
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Compensation & Benefits
- $65,000–$85,000 annually, commensurate with experience
