Counter Representative – Paint Store

753 Vance Drive, Telluride, CO 81435Full-time — Non-exempt$20–$24 per hour, commensurate with experience

A Paint Store Counter Representative serves as the primary point of contact for both retail and commercial customers, balancing technical expertise in color matching with high-quality service.

Core Responsibilities

Customer Assistance

  • Greet walk-in customers and answer phone inquiries
  • Provide expert advice on paint and stain types, finishes, and application techniques for various projects

Paint Mixing & Tinting

  • Operate computerized tinting machines to mix paint and stain according to standard or custom formulas

Color Matching

  • Use spectrophotometers or manual visual comparisons to accurately match paint colors from customer samples

Sales Transactions

  • Process orders, returns, and exchanges using a Point of Sale (POS) system
  • Ensure accurate cash and credit handling

Inventory Support

  • Receive and stock incoming freight
  • Perform cycle counts and maintain organized, clean product displays

Contractor Support

  • Assist professional contractors with high-volume orders, technical inquiries, and order tracking

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to use computers, inventory scanners, and perform basic math for retail transactions
  • Must be able to stand for long periods and frequently lift or carry items up to 50–60 lbs
  • Must have the ability to distinguish between colors for precise color matching
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required for occasional customer deliveries

Preferred

  • Previous retail, customer service, or paint/coatings industry experience

  • Attention to detail for accurate order fulfillment and color matching
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism

Compensation & Benefits

  • $20–$24 per hour, commensurate with experience
  • Overtime available and/or required based on seasonality
